It was formerly observed on May 30 from 1868 to 1970.[3] Many people visit cemeteries and memorials on Memorial Day to honor and mourn those who died while serving in the U.S. military....

Happy Thanksgiving Thought Experiment

Happy Thanksgiving! Happy Thanksgiving posts are usually about counting our blessings and giving thanks.  Steven Johnson compels us to consider this thought experiment:  If your daily newspaper were published once-in-a-century, and it came out today, what would the banner headline read? This is, indeed, something to be truly grateful for: Human life expectancy at birth doubled, worldwide, over the last hundred years. Here’s a video Steven Johnson referred to in his TED Talk; under two minutes: I plan to listen to the Audible Book.  I...

Connexions

Although Connexions looks a lot clunkier and less visually appealing than other sites featured here, it is quite a great repository of courses on many fields of study. One great thing about Connexions is how they feature different professors and scientists that write the courses. Although anyone can contribute, it is quite clear which courses the authors know exactly what they’re writing about. After browsing through a few courses, I was amazed at the amount of content offered.
